A Message from the President and CEO

On behalf of everyone at Crotched Mountain -- the directors and trustees, the more than 800 employees, the many volunteers and interns and especially the thousands of individuals and families we support every day through our programs and services -- I extend my warmest welcome.

On our website, you can learn about the many programs and services we offer that restore lives and hope, build new skills and foster community connections. Here, we have provided information that we hope will answer your questions, help you gain access to our services and determine how we can be of support to you or your family. Through our website, we also are creating community using the new tools of social media, and you are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Since 1953, Crotched Mountain has been a valued resource and a source of strength and hope for thousands of people in New Hampshire and the Northeast. On the surface, our programs look different than they did in our early years. Back then, we provided rehabilitation services to children with polio and soon thereafter began operating the New Hampshire School for the Deaf. Today, one of our newest programs, Ready Set Connect!, provides evidence-based Applied Behavioral Analysis services to children on the autism spectrum. And our Specialty Hospital expanded its rehabilitation services to include people who are ventilator-dependent. What has remained steady throughout all these years is our commitment to serving our community’s most vulnerable populations – individuals and families who often have nowhere else to turn.

We stand by our mission to offer a lifelong alliance to people with disabilities. This means people of all ages, from infants to seniors, can take advantage of person-centered services that support a very natural desire to be valued members of the communities where they live. For some, that means a return home. And for others, it can include joining the communities we’ve created here on our Greenfield campus and in local communities throughout New Hampshire and neighboring states.

The mother of one of our students at Crotched Mountain School recently said to me, "I can't imagine a world without Crotched Mountain." I know in my heart that this is a sentiment that has been expressed to my predecessors numerous times over our history, and to the many thousands of people who have been part of the Crotched Mountain family. This is our call to action and an ideal we try to measure up to every day. We are aided immeasurably in our work due to the support of so many who partner with us and contribute their time and resources, and to all of them we are truly grateful.

I welcome you to explore our website and learn more about Crotched Mountain. If there are ways we can improve, be of greater service and live up to our mission more completely, please let me know.
