Crotched MountainFoundation HARRY GREGG FOUNDATION

Overview

HaryAlanGreggThe Harry Gregg Foundation provides financial assistance to improve the lives of people in New Hampshire with physical, intellectual, or emotional disabilities.  It was established in 1989 in memory of Harry Gregg (1883-1972), founder of the Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center.   Since then, the Foundation has made more than 6,000 grants totaling over $2 million.  Funds may be requested for many purposes including:

  • The costs of non-reimbursed medical or therapy treatments not covered by insurance or other programs;
  • Specialty equipment services or supplies;
  • Modifications to living area, work site or vehicle;
  • Respite services to the recipient or caregivers;
  • Costs of attending a special camp;
  • Recreational activities or
  • Vocational education or driver training tuition assistance

Recreation Funds for 2012 Now Available

At our January meeting, the Trustees recently allocated $30,000 for recreational grants. Recreation grants are processed weekly (rather than quarterly) on a first-come, first-serve basis starting in January.

Recreation grants are limited to $300. The funds go quickly and we encourage applicants to apply early. In 2011, funds were expended by May. For the third year we have made a block grant to Camp Allen so that they can directly distribute Harry Gregg funds to campers, which streamlines the process for everyone. It continues to work great and we will do it again this year. Last year we made 33 grants to Camp Allen campers.

Please Note :
Applications for HGF funds to attend Camp Allen are now administered by Camp Allen. Please do not submit applications for funds to attend Camp Allen through this website. Camp Allen will process all HGF applications for Camp Allen tuition.

About Harry Gregg Funding for iPads

Recently, the HGF has received many requests for funds to purchase iPads. The foundation will consider requests for iPads under certain conditions.

  • If the iPad is to be used strictly for communication purposes, NH Medicaid now provides funding for the iPad for this purpose and we ask you to explore this funding option prior to applying to the Harry Gregg Foundation.
  • If you are not eligible for Medicaid assistance, and the iPad is to be used for therapeutic or educational purposes, a recommendation from a licensed physical, occupational or speech therapist, or learning specialist must accompany the request.

Harry Gregg Foundation Announces Funds for North Country

The Harry Gregg Foundation recently received a $15,000 grant from the Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation (NHCF) to assist residents with disabilities from the towns of Colebrook, Berlin and surrounding communities.

"The North Country is home to the highest number of elderly and disabled residents in the state and we want to make sure they're getting the help they need," said HGF president Don Shumway. "We're very grateful to the Tillotson Fund and NHCF for this award."

Past funding from the Tillotson Fund has provided a total of $30,000 to people in the North Country.

"Through these grants, the Tillotson Fund has made a significant impact on the health and well being of people in the North Country, improving individual lives and strengthening communities," said Mr. Shumway.

Applicants should check the website for deadlines, meeting dates, and income and project guidelines before submitting an application.

The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation has been working to improve the quality of life in our communities since 1962. It builds and manages a collection of funds, currently totaling more than $400 million, created by individuals, families and corporations for general charitable purposes.

HGF GOES PAPERLESS: On-line Application Now Available

HGF applications must now be completed and submitted on-line.

If an applicant doesn't have personal access to a computer, we suggest they seek the assistance of a case manager, care manager, physician's office, vendor, or other person or organization involved in their care.

The on-line application is short and simple, and we hope that it will make your life easier as it streamlines the grant-making process for us.

How to complete the on-line application

Before beginning the application, please review project and income guidelines on the website to determine if the project you are applying for is one that is funded by the HGF, and to determine if your income falls within our income eligibility guidelines.

  1. Click on the submit an online application below which will bring you to a page that asks two eligibility questions. Answer the questions and, if you are eligible, you will automatically be brought to the first page of the application.
  1. All sections with a red star must be completed before the application will be accepted.
  1. If questions are unclear, or you are unsure how to input information, please see the sample application for clarification on how to provide the required information.

  2. Medical Diagnosis Requirement: To verify eligibility for Harry Gregg Foundation funds, applicants must upload a letter of diagnosis generated by a physician, school system, HCBC care management agency, area agency, or other qualified medical /social service entity. Your application will not be reviewed without this documentation. Applications will not be accepted until this document is attached to this grant request.
    • The application requests the required medical documentation on the last page
    • Just select the appropriate document description from the dropdown menu
    • Click on "browse" to find the document on your computer
    • Click on "open" and the path will appear in the window
    • Click on "upload document" and the program will indicate that the document has been successfully uploaded.

  1. An e-mail submission verification will be automatically generated letting you know that your application has been successfully submitted.
  1. A note on recreation grants: Recreation grants are not reviewed at the quarterly meetings, but are reviewed on an on-going basis beginning in January when funds are allocated. Recreation funds are distributed on a first come, first serve basis. Applications submitted early in the year are more likely to be funded as funds are limited and are expended quickly. Please note: all hippotherapy requests are considered recreational grants, as are all recreational activities not attended and facilitated by a licensed physical, occupational or speech therapist. Applications for HGF funds to attend Camp Allen are now administered by Camp Allen. Please do not submit applications for funds to attend Camp Allen through this website. Camp Allen will process all HGF applications for Camp Allen tuition.
