The mission of the New Hampshire Department of Agriculture, Markets & Food is to promote agriculture in the public interest and to serve farmers and consumers in the marketplace. The department assures safe and healthy food supplies, provides accurate information on prices and availability of farm commodities and crops and develops markets for the state's farmers.
(RSA 432:18-31a; CHAPTER Agr 700) The department has managed a farmland preservation program since 1979, when the state first appropriated funds to purchase development rights on prime agricultural land. This program currently holds and monitors easements on 32 different farm properties, comprising 2,922.76 acres. In addition to purchase of development rights, the department also accepts gifts of easements and cooperates with other state and federal agencies in other land protection activities. The department also works with land trusts, conservation organizations and municipalities to protect farmland throughout the state.
The mission statement of the Northeast Organic Dairy Producers Alliance (NODPA) is to enable organic family dairy farmers, situated across an extensive area, to have informed discussion about matters critical to the well being of the organic dairy industry.
The Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA) is a non-profit organization of nearly 4,000 farmers, gardeners and consumers working to promote healthy food, organic farming practices and a cleaner environment. NOFA has chpters in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.
