Shana Brautigam, Rooted in Clay
Shana Brautigam of Rooted in Clay, a NH pottery studio, visited the CM School Art classroom in the fall of 2011. Working with CM students, Shana led the creation of ceramic musical instruments including whistles, xylophones and rattles. Using classic and modern hand-building techniques, students shaped the instruments and parts for the xylophone, learned how to attach the various pieces and finished them with a colorful glaze. The students played their instruments in CM music classes and performed in an ensemble at the CM Mid-Winter Arts Festival.
