Crotched Mountain Outpatient Services offers a complete range of occupational, speech and physical therapies to address the complex needs of children and adults with autism spectrum disorder. We work with our clients and their physicians to develop individualized approaches that address sensory, communication, mobility, daily living and self-care skills.
In addition to individualized occupational, speech and physical therapies, we also provide two highly-specialized programs:
Sensory Integration Therapy
Children and adults with autism and other sensory disorders who are overly or under-sensitive to sights, sounds, tastes, smells or touch, and who have difficulty sensing their bodies, can often benefit from sensory integration therapy. Through individualized approaches with our highly-trained occupational therapists, patients learn to filter information and engage appropriately with objects and people in a functional, age-appropriate manner. This type of therapy is appropriate for all age groups.
Augmentative Communication (AAC)
When people can communicate, a whole new world opens up. With the help of a speech-language pathologist (SLP), children and adults can break through communication barriers and participate more fully in their communities using Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC). AAC solutions can include low and high-tech systems, from Picture Exchange Communication Systems to iPad apps to programmable communication devices. We are experts in assessing and recommending an AAC solution that meets each individual’s cognitive and physical abilities. And we teach children and adults, as well as the people who support them, how to successfully communicate using their customized AAC solution.
