In making the decision to switch to a biomass fuel heating plant, Crotched Mountain sought the advice of the Biomass Energy Resource Center in Montpelior, VT. BERC wrote a series of consulting reports that assessed the availability of wood chip supply over the long term, an economic analysis of the costs and potential savings of building and operating a biomass plant, a conceptual design of the central heating plant and performance specifications for the plant that were used in developing a Requests for Proposals to solicit bids for the project. BERC also assisted us in evaluating submitted bids.
D.H. Hardwick & Sons, Inc. of Bennington, NH, is a fully integrated land use service company. They were selected by Crotched Mountain through a proposal review process to supply our wood chips. We have a five-year contract with costs already specified.
On October 6, 2006, Crotched Mountain hosted the Integrated Design/Integrated Development (IDID) Conference. This annual event, sponsored by the New Hampshire Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, brings together architects, landscape architects, engineers, developers, contractors, real estate brokers, bankers, building owners, and others to open communications between the disciplines and to promote environmentally responsible, economically compelling design and development.
Messersmith, of Bark River, MI, is the country's premier manufacturer and assembler of woodchip fired heating plants. Crotched Mountain selected Messersmith though a competitive bidding process.
