Harvest Tasting a Successful First-time Event Raises $36,000 for Crotched Mountain Foundation

One hundred people sat down to dinner Saturday night to enjoy the first Harvest Tasting, a special event to benefit Crotched Mountain.

"We want to combine good food and spirits with good company for a good cause," said Crotched Mountain President Don Shumway in his welcome to everyone.

The main courses, cheese and dessert courses were paired with specially selected New Hampshire wines with commentary by wine writer Jim Beauregard whose weekly column Notes from the Vine, appears in the Union Leader. Many of the courses showcased produce from Crotched Mountain's own Cornucopia Gardens and Sunnyfield Farm, an organic farm owned by Crotched Mountain and located in Peterborough. Crotched Mountain's Dining Services department catered the dinner.

A highlight of the evening was an adaptive dance presentation by Crotched Mountain School student Kaitlin Rooney and adaptive dance instructor Addy Kanaley.

Crotched Mountain serves 3,000 children and adults with disabilities annually at its Greenfield Campus and at community locations throughout New Hampshire and in Maine and Massachusetts. Programs include the Crotched Mountain School and Crotched Mountain Specialty Hospital in Greenfield. Crotched Mountain Community Care provides care management to over 800 seniors and adults with disabilities.. Crotched Mountain employs over 800 staff including 650 at the Greenfield campus. Crotched Mountain is a 2009 recipient of Business New Hampshire Magazines "Lean & Green Award" for large companies.
