Parent Perspectives

Shaina

Shaina Gavens at Graduation

"Crotched Mountain's academic and residential programs have been outstanding in helping our daughter grow into the young lady she is today.

From living in a group home and then transitioning to the Fox Meadow apartments, Shaina was able to learn and practice all the skills necessary for life after graduation.

Due to a significant number of complications with our state, our daughter's post-graduation move to a group home was delayed. Crotched Mountain worked with us and our daughter's social service worker to keep her on the mountain for eight months afterher expected date of departure.

During that time, and throughout her stay, our Crotched Mountain case manager acted as an advocate on our behalf- helping us negotiate our way through 'the system.' During the eight months post-graduation, Crotched Mountain displayed a willingness and creativity in developing programs to prepare our daughter for the future.

I'm delighted to say that Shaina's transition to her group home has been very smooth. She has quickly adjustedto her new life because of the preparation she received and the skills she learned on the mountain."

-- Marlene Gavens, parent
